I used to fly IAC contests and air shows with my plane. I have the GO
480-G1D6 engine. I'm swinging a
three bladed Hartzell one of a kind built by hartzell for the airplane. The
blades are the ones used on the
Aero Commander and the hub is the one used on the Helio Courier.
I owned a T-6 G before and while I was building. Ultimately I had to sell
the 6 to finish the PJ. If you
rolled the T6 you know that it had a feel and technique all to itself. The
PJ feels a great deal like a
T6. It rolls faster, but has the same control feel and travel. I put a
balance tab on the elevator and spades on the ailerons
on my airplane. My airplane stalls at about 62 knots. It cruises at about
140kts with the front pit covered and 130kts
with the pit open and a windshield.
Even with 295 hp, I could only compete in the intermediate category as the
airplane
has poor vertical penetration. Ed Mahler, who's' airplane was a lot lighter
that the airplane you and I have, could just
barely get one vertical roll. He had to dive almost straight down and then
pull immediately to the vertical..... about 8-9 Gs
and slap the stick over as far as possible. If you've flown a Pitts you
know that you can pull from level and get two
vertical rolls no sweat.......and fly off the top also.
The PJ is not tough on the ground any more than the T6 was. I heard all the
horror stories about the T6.
You just didn't let it get away from you. The PJ is the same. It's
absolutely no sweat to land as long as you
don't let it get away from you.
